Warsaw WWTF Improvements

Village of Warsaw, NY

JM Davidson Engineering, D.P.C. (JMD) was subcontracted by CPL to assist with the design of a new ultraviolet (UV) disinfection system at the wastewater treatment facility (WWTF).  In 2018, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) issued the Village of Warsaw WWTF a revised SPDES permit proposing changes to their fecal coliform effluent limits and seasonal disinfection requirements.  During the initial design process, CPL evaluated the disinfection alternatives and selected UV treatment as the preferred design alternative to comply with the NYSDEC’s requirements.

JMD assisted CPL in the design and preparation of contract drawings and specifications for the design of the UV system at the WWTF.

The work performed includes:

  • Researched available UV technologies and coordinated with various manufacturers / vendors to conduct effluent sampling and determine the effectiveness of UV disinfection.
  • Conducted a hydraulic profile analysis of the effluent system at the plant to ensure acceptable hydraulics for the proposed UV system based on a selected system as the Basis of Design.
  • Designed the new UV channel / structure, including the building slab and below grade channel and foundations of the new UV building.
  • Coordinated with CPL regarding the UV building electrical and architectural elements necessary to support the new UV system.
  • Designed a new bypass routing system including manholes, gate structures, and piping necessary take the system offline during construction and for maintenance and/or off-season purposes.
  • Assisted CPL with construction support for shop drawing review for the UV system and structural items.
